Lubavitch Civic Dinner
Honouring the
Provost (Mayor) of East Renfrewshire Council
Glasgow Scotland
This past Monday Lubavitch of Scotland
held a Civic Dinner Party at their
home in honour of 'Guests of Honour' Provost Alastair Carmichael and
Lady
Provost Liz Carmichael. Among the guests were present were Councillor
Jim
Fletcher current leader of the Council and Joint Presidents of the
Glasgow
Jewish Representative Council Nicola Livingston and Evie Yedd. Also
present
were the three sons of the Jacobs family Rabbi Mendel Jacobs of Glasgow
founder
of the Jewish Tartan, Rabbi Yossi Jacobs Senior Minister in Birmingham
who came
specially for the event and Sholom Jacobs who came specially from New
York.
The event was held in appreciation of
all the support and friendship shown by
the Provost over the past five years to the Jacobs Family, Lubavitch of
Scotland
and the Jewish Community at large.
Rabbi Jacobs welcomed the guests and
recited a specially written Civic Prayer
praying for the health and welfare of the Provost and all citizens of
East Renfrewshire.
Toast to the Provost was given by
Immediate Past President of the Glasgow Jewish
Representative Council Paul Morron, Toast to Lubavitch was given by Dr
Steven Kayne,
Toast on behalf of the guests was given by Rep Council Joint President
Evie Yedd.
A presentation of a Crystal
decanter was made to the Provost by Chaim and Sora
Jacobs on behalf of Lubavitch Scotland.
In his remarks the Provost spoke of the warm relationship he has enjoyed
with
the Jewish community throughout his life and in particular during his
past five
years in office. He also paid tribute to the work of Lubavitch Alias the
Rabbi
Chaim and Sora Jacobs and their son Rabbi Mendel.

Moshiach's Seudah in Glasgow Scotland
Very Busy Communal Seder for 110 People
Rabbi Chaim and Sora
Jacobs of Lubavitch of Scotland hosted a packed
Moshiach Seudah in their home at the end of Yom Tov. Attendance was
the highest ever with over 30 men, women and children of all ages in
attendance.
Besides being served a lavish meal
organized by Sora, the guests
enjoyed numerous songs and heard inspiring stories about Divine
Providence – the hand of Hashem from Chaim. In addition he explained
the background to the custom of Moshiach’s Seuda and also spoke at
length about the meaning of the coming redemption through Moshiach
and how it will affect the entire world both Jew and non-Jew alike.
This end of Yom Tov seudah followed
the communal Seder for 110 guests,
the Pesach BBQ for 55 people, the inviting of numerous guests for Yom Tov
Meals throughout the chag at their home Before Pesach they distributed over
1200 Pesach guides, 100 Tzivos Hashem children Pesach magazines, 100
Hagadahs as Pesach gifts to children throughout the community and Shemura
Matza to over 170 families,
The end of Pesach program included a
mincha and maariv service which ended
with Havdola and a warm lively singing of L’shona Habo Bi’yerusholyim.
